Some Info:

You might be wondering how I test my games and frame statistics- well, here’s the go:

1. They are tested after I have spent at least 25 hours on them.

This is necessary so that I can ascertain if the game is addictive or not. This can also give me some vital information about the games.

2. I have usually completed the games I test.

I usually do this to get some really vital info on the game like the level designing, the complete story and so on.

3. All of the tests are based on this PC configuration:

I carry out all performance and graphics tests on this system. I know this a cheap one but it’s usually all that’s needed for the games I review. And it’s very likely that the games may work twice as good on your PC.

Frets On Fire

Frets on Fire

You thought guitar hero was awesome? Get your fingers burnt on this one. Frets on fire is an open source game that requires really fast fingers to get you through. Think you’re ready?

If you don’t know what frets on fire or guitar hero are, well, here’s a description: You have to hit 5 types of incoming notes using 5 keys and a pick key when they reach the 5 frets. Check out the helpfile to know more.

It’s an arcade game but a good one at that. The game initially comes with 3 superb songs for you to play but you can download more at fan sites. There are lots of mods which can add features to your gameplay, and there’s even an RF mod which makes the game look like guitar hero. If you have a guitar hero game, you can upload songs from that too. How cool can you get? You can even compose your own songs.

For the difficulty, it depends on the composition of the song, but in general, the game is somewhat difficult initially. You slowly get practice which makes the game average. I’ll rate this at slightly difficult because to get 100% accuracy, you need some luck too. The tutorial is funniest of all the tutorials and features Jurgen who ‘thinks’ we suck. If you think you’re ready, upload your scores to the world charts.

It’s a sound game and has great sound- enough said. As for the graphics, they are good but they take a slight toll on your system’s resources. The visual appeal for the default mod is good enough.
